Smithsonian National Zoo #1: Conservation Pavilion

A regular visitor to the National Zoo, over the past couple of years there has been a construc- tion zone at the south end of the zoo.  A new Conservation Pavilion with an adjacent Honey Bee Playground has been going in.  I had assumed that the use of the word Pavilion was somewhat euphemistic and that the addition was going to be an educational oriented center for conservation.  It's finally done.  And it's just a huge all weather event space.  I'm sure it will be well used and is expensive to rent.  The playground is just an unrelated addition.

Both speak broadly to the need contemp- orary zoos feel to have options for both fund raising and child care.
