With the resignation of Senator Al Franken and the appointment of Tina Smith to fulfill the remainder of the term, the United States Senate reaches a new pinnacle of estrogen. And it's both wonderful and pathetic--were still 29 seats away from parity. Still, more women in the congress is always a good thing.
Just to put it in historical perspective--here's a look at many of the previous Senates and their representation by women.
I start with the 103rd congress that was called "The Year of the Women" just because 3 were elected at the same time! Goodness how quaint.
