Full Disclosure, I've been to the Zambezi River, ridden down it in a canopied boat and seen wild Hippopotamus up close-ish and personal. They are magnificent animals. This relatively new habitat is impressively large and home to a pair of equally magnificent, but not nearly as aggressive Hippopotamus. But before we meet the Hippos, we encountered a flock of gorgeous Lesser Flamingos; however, the flock was about evening divided between more crimson and more orange birds with the orange birds being larger, which made me wonder whether it was a mixed flock or Lesser and Greater Flamingos.
Here you can see the distinctive difference between the plumage with the oranger-feathered birds in the back.
Three angles of underwater observing is possible
A adjacent building (also part of the whole complex and habitat) with space for events has a 360 degree balcony that offers even a higher vantage from which to admire the Hippos
Can you see them?
A lovely plaza fronts this building and leads guests on to the next set of adventures.
