Memphis Zoo: African Elephants

The African Veldt at the Memphis Zoo ends with the African Elephants.  Home to five gorgeous pachyderms who live in a large, wide habitat complete with a generous water feature.  The zoo proudly displays the identities of their elephants, and the elephants are happy to share insights into their diverse personalities.  Such beautiful creatures, well cared for and free to hang out together or not as was apparent from our brief visit.

The long view of the habitat from one end.

The main feature of the middle section is this huge pool.

Beyond the pool is a third even larger yard for the girls.

Daisy, 51, is one of the oldest of the girls and a very curious beauty.

I believe this is Bambi, also 51, in the background.

Found feasting alone in the far end of the third yard, Gina, 41, was availing herself of some "me" time.

Glorious creatures deserving of our attention and last dime to save from extinction.
