I used to watch a lot of LGBT films. I gave special consideration to foreign films. It was fetish that faded--I have a large box of DVD's to prove it.
Tonight I happened upon this 2016 film from France. How tenderly told. 4 stars out of 5. Well worth every one of the 87 minutes.

Film Review 2.001 "Jongens"
Just watched the sweetest coming of age gay romance from the Netherlands "Jongens" (Boys 2014). Two teens discover first love as they train to run in a track meet. One comes from a supportive, well-adjusted family, and the other's home-life is chaotic in the aftermath of the death of his mother and his older brother's rebellious behavior. What seems effortless for one, is conflicted and painful for the other. In the end, it is up to the angst ridden teen's straight best friend to give him permission to reveal his true self. Well done. The dialogue is restrained, the direction of the actors subtle and narrative in a gentle way. The cinematography is at times brilliant, and the emotions... I remember them so well, so long ago now. 5 stars!
