The Maryland Zoo has 4 areas of focus, the Arctic/Antarctic animals, North American animals, a modest Children's Farm, and animals of Africa. One exception is their Amur Leopard resident Asian Species. Given the weather, the animals of Africa were mostly off exhibit, but certainly not all. The first large enclosure is home to three species: Southern White Rhinoceros, Common Ostrich and Burchell's Zebras. All three were present.
This is Stubby. He's 24 and has been at the zoo for most of his life. For many years he was companion to Daisy. She died in 2016 at the age of 49--longest inhabitant of the Maryland Zoo at the time. I am 100% team Stubby!
This is Jaharo. He's just 5. He came to the zoo 10 months ago at the age of 4 from The Wilds in eastern Ohio were he was born. Even after 10 months, these two are not allowed to share the space at the same time. Introductions between White Rhinoceros males can take a long time.
