
One of the older structures still in use at the National Zoo is their Romanesque style Reptile House. Home to dozens of species of Reptiles and Amphibians, it's a model that time has both improved here and led to other state-of-the-art herpetariums around the country. Even small zoos have discovered the power a herpetarium can bring to its collection for relatively low cost per species.

A large collection of tortoises represented by African Aldabra Tortoises and Galapagos Island Tortoises. Here a male Aldabra is getting it on with a female--a sight and sounds you'll not soon forget...
