You exit and continue along the ridge to the next structure. What had formerly been the formal Aviary is now another expanded Aviary with a whole area of nocturnal animals (too dark for pics) all centered around species native to the Southwest part of North America.
Looking down at the lower (mid-level) path to give a perspective on the idea that this part of the zoo is built along a steep and high palisade.The upper path is all made of a beautifully constructed boardwalk with rails. The Southwestern Habitats building is directly ahead in the image.
The main area of the octagon is an open multi-species habitat.
Unspecified Desert Tortoise--probably a California Desert Tortoise, but the signage is not sepcific.

There are also other animal habitats built on the top and long the ridge. This one is home to Bobcats. Napping Bobcats...
