Virginia Zoo's "Trail of the Tiger": part 4 of 4 (from July 16)

Finally, the namesake of the "Trail of the Tiger"!  It's more than just a statue at the entrance.  The Virginia Zoo is home to 3 Malayan Tigers; an older male, and two sibling brothers he sired 3 years ago.  Generally, all three animals are not out at the same time, and often the older male spends the evenings out on his own preferring to sleep inside during the day.  The younger males occupy the habitat to the good fortune of guests during the day, and at least in the mornings (the only times I have visited them) they have always been very active and enjoyable to observe.

The first portal into their habitat is up in the constructed complex next to the portal into in the Bornean Orangutan habitat.  As luck would have it, that's were the brothers were hanging out, too.

The main viewing portal is on the opposite side and features underwater viewing of their large pool.

Again, fate was smiling upon me as one of the brothers was in the mood to play with a large red ball and go for a swim.  At one point his frolicking left the ball floating behind, and he got up close and personal with the viewing barrier.

All good things must come to an end...
