National Aquarium: Australia Wild Extremes

Out of the Dolphin Discovery presentation and back across the overpass between the Pier 4 building and the Pier 3 buildings and I decided to go to the top of the Glass Pavilion and go through the Australia Wild Extremes habitat space next.  I must say, this is the most thorough and amazing Australian focused exhibition that I have ever experienced at any zoo or aquarium.

There was an opportunity to experience many types of indigenous animals, as well as, indigenous culture and landforms.  From the moment I arrived, I was just delighted by everything I saw.

You start in a little foyer space that has a couple of habitats for reptiles and crustaceans, and then cross the elevated bridge over the entrance to an exhibit of Aboriginal rock and additional reptiles before entering into the ecosystem proper.

Bearded Dragon hanging out on a rock.
 Frilled Lizard resting on limb.
Shield Shrimp--lice like creatures with some characteristics reminiscent of Horseshoe Crabs, but really only thumb-sized.
Looking down the falls to the pool with the Brook Trout.
Looking at the top of the falls.
Recreations of Australian Aboriginal rock art.

Surrounded by flora and fauna--birds overhead, fish and reptiles in the huge tanks.  Everywhere feeling like I'm in another world completely.
 Pig-nosed Turtles.

Merten's Water Monitor contemplating a swim...
 Archer Fish at el.

 Johnson's Freshwater Crocodile.
