National Museum of the American Indian: The Building & Grounds

Across the street from the National Botanical Gardens is the National Museum of the American Indian.  It is not only one of my favorite cultural museums in the nation, the building itself is a work of art.

The main plaza outside the entrance is wrapped on it's eastern side by a wetland park.  Popular with wild ducks and actually accurate to the landscape on this sight before it was developed from its natural ecological habitat.

The design was meant to convey a sense of the cliffs of southwestern Colorado home to the Puebla and Abenaki peoples.
