African Art Museum: African Mosaic

The African Art Museum in Washington DC is part of the larger Freer-Sackler Museum complex.  Like the Sackler Gallery of Asian Art, it is primary constructed underground.  It's collection contains a wide variety of objects covering a full range of disciplines and reflects works from the Cultures on the continent of Africa as well as the greater diaspora.  The museum is divided into separate galleries on multiple levels--like the Sackler Asian Art Museum, the level are split creating an interesting sense of most a vertical and well as a horizontal maze. 

The works are displayed in a mix of mediums, cultures and chronologies.  Works on the first floor are arranged under the title "African Mosaic".  Some of the items are of things you would expect to discover in an African Art collection and others are not.  The depth of the collection is affirmed in both the quality and the range of artworks you will encounter.  A few of the pieces you will find there:
