Metro Richmond Zoo: View 5 of 12

On to the other two primate islands with a family of Orangutan on the first one and a colony of 10 Chimpanzees on the second.  Because primates can't swim, they won't even attempt to cross the water.  The situation does create a barrier free setting.  Just beyond there animals is a area with a pair of African Lions.  Unfortunately for the visitor, the enclosure is down an embankment and the presence of fencing makes getting a worthy photo impossible.  Even the viewing of these animals in poor.  Whereas most zoos thrust their African Lions front and center into the public's presence, this zoo seems to keep them nearly hidden away.

Another perspective.
