At this point we are halfway through the complex of exhibits. We have also left the elevated boardwalk and now have both feet firmly on the ground. This area of the complex is home to fewer and larger exhibits featuring Malayan Moon Bears, Malayan Tapirs, White-Cheeked Gibbons, and Asian Small-clawed Otters. The zoo is home to two Moon Bears. They are brothers so no breeding. One this day, one was out lounging on the deck of their climbing structure.
One of the ways to view them is under this shady covering. Like the bear who seemed to appreciate the sun defusing second deck above him on this hot summer's day, I was grateful for the design forethought here.
Another portal into the habitat give the effect of peering out of a cave.
