Metro Richmond Zoo: View 8 of 12

The heart of the walking zoo centers around a large pond.  It is home to two species of crane, two species of antelope and the zoo's herd of Reticulated Giraffe.  The birds are the Stanley Crane and the Eastern Grey Crowned Crane.  Along with small flocks of each of these birds there Eastern Mountain Bongo and Greater Kudu.  Both of the species roam in herds of 12 and 10 animals respectively, each led by a dominant bull.  Other mature males are kept else where in the zoo.  Some can be scene, and others not.

The Giraffe are four animals in the main area, again a Bull and three females.  An adjacent pen is home to a pair of males, one a Masai Giraffe. and the other appeared a little ambiguous.  It is possible for different species to interbreed and it has happened.  Usually animals of hybrid stock are discouraged from breeding to maintain pure lineages.
