Hoops was the first exhibition that I visited at the Smithsonian National Building Museum. It is a collection of photographs taken by the artist, Bill Bamberger. He traveled the country in search of Basketball hoops/courts (though not all of the hoops he found and recorded were on formal courts!). The project was an excuse to depict community. Community through the ubiquitous lens of a basketball hoop. The range of settings is amazing. The artistry evident in the compositional choices Bamberger made in recording his finds is truly delightful. I don't give a shit about basketball, but these images connected to me on so many levels.
