Quercus var.

Walking Romeo down in the park this afternoon in the cold drizzle.  We were in no rush, nowhere to go more important than where we were.  The trees are now mostly naked.  The action is still on the ground where an orgy of leaves interlock and blanket the forest floor.  I thought of the oaks.  I know of 7 species that live in our little suburban park.  Here are leaves of 5 of them
WHITE OAK, Quercus alba

BLACK OAK, Quercus velutina

SCARLET OAK, Quercus coccinea

PIN OAK, Quercus palustris

NORTHERN RED OAK, Quercus rubra
