President's Day Trip to the Zoo: Amur Leopard.

For many years, the Maryland Zoo was home to African Leopards in keeping with their regional focus.  Hobbes was there last African Leopard and passed at the end of May in 2916 at the age of 22. He had lived at the zoo since the age of 2.  In 2013 the AZA asked the Maryland Zoo to accept an Amur Leopard and participate in the Species Survival Program for this species.  In 2014, Sofiya joined Hobbes and now is the zoo's only Leopard.  She may be bred at some point in the near future and if successful would bring Leopard cubs to the zoo.  She came out and was so patient with me in posing.
