Maryland Zoo: Giant Tree Herpetarium

Another visit to the newly renovated Giant Tree Herpetarium.  I am such a lover of Herpetariums, and the up grades to the habitats in this one continue to excite me.  Designed to look like the large trunk of an ancient Beech tree, the herpetarium is found by entering below the "tree".  A very simple design (a loop) with just 6 habitats, the Giant Tree Herpetarium is the middle link of three exhibits with Herpatarium habitats.  The first is the Maryland Cave.  The last is the Maryland Meadow with a subterranean passageway on it's back side.

Beautiful back-lit signage enhances the guest's understanding of the habitats and their inhabitants.

The habitat of a gorgeous Corn Snake

Next door is a habitat for a King Mole Snake.

The next is for a Hog-nosed Snake.

The Wood Turtle is one of two turtles featured here.

The visit ends with a trio of Black Rat Snakes.
