Maryland Zoo: Children's Farm

The final stop on my recent visit to the Maryland Zoo was in the Children's Farm.  It was a hot time of the day, and the animals were not terribly animated.  The Anglo-Nubian goats were mostly lounging, and the Nigerian Dwarf Goats were eating.  But when do goats not want to eat?!  The Guinea fowl were squeaking up a storm for the attention of a family interacting with them.  Wilbur and Orville, our Kune Kune pigs, were rutting around their space.  The Cotswold Sheep were lounging in the sanctuary of there barn.  The Alpaca's were feeding, and one was drinking from an ad hoc "fountain" created by a garden sprinkler.  And Harry and Lloyd, our Mediterranean Donkeys, were enjoy their lunch.

Lloyd had set his sights on an enrichment block of ice filled with Apple and Pear chunks.  It was set in a tub that was set in tire to keep him from spilling it out on the ground.  As he tackled the licking of the ice to obtain the fruit, he would stop and turn his attention to licking the rim of the tire.  I realized that he was probably fight a little "brain freeze"--or at the very least, "tongue" freeze!
